World Refugee Day was celebrated in Kawergosk

A ceremony was held in Kawergosk camp on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, in the presence of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charity Foundation.

In a speech delivered on the occasion, the governor expressed his desire that one day every refugee will return home.

He stated that as a result of Iraq's sectarian war and ISIS fighters' attacks, a huge number of Syrians and Iraqis have fled to the Kurdistan Region's tranquil areas, and the Kurdistan Region has embraced them and the Kurdistan Regional Government has focused all of its efforts to shelter refugees. As a result, it is necessary to express gratitude to the Barzani Charity Foundation for its tremendous aid to these refugees as well as their leadership position in the camps.

He stated that World Refugee Day is a day to reflect on and work for families and individuals who have been forced to flee their homes as a result of conflict, damage, poor policies, repression, poverty, and suffering. Their only hope is to return to their previous residences.

The ceremony was attended by the Director of Erbil Governorate Crisis Response and Coordination and representatives from a number of humanitarian organizations.

It is noteworthy that the United Nations designated June 20 as World Refugee Day in 2001.
