Governor of Erbil Receives Russian Consul General in Erbil

On Thursday, September 17, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received Mr.Maxim Rubin, Consul General of Russia in Erbil, at the governorate office.
During the meeting, the Russian Consul indicated that his visit served as a formal farewell upon the completion of his duties in Erbil. He announced that a newly appointed consul will shortly take over the role. In light of his departure, he thanked the Governor and the Erbil administration for their ongoing cooperation, coordination, and support during his years of service. Additionally, he stated, 'The Kurdish people in general, and the capital Erbil in particular, hold a special place in my heart.'"

In response, after acknowledging his past efforts to develop relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia, the Governor of Erbil highly praised the Consul’s role and the overall activities of his country's consulate in the Kurdistan Region in general, and the capital Erbil in particular. He commended his work in advancing bilateral relations and wished him success in his future endeavors.

The Governor also expressed hope for maintaining the same level of relationship and friendship with the incoming consul to further strengthen ties and develop relations between the Kurdistan Region and Russia.
 

In conclusion, both sides reaffirmed the historical and diplomatic relations between Russia and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing the importance of continued ties and mutual exchanges in the economic, commercial, cultural, and civilizational fields.
