Governor of Erbil and Austrian Ambassador Emphasize Developing Relations

Today, Sunday, September 27, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, in the presence of Deputy Governor Hemin Qadir, received Mr. Axel Wech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Iraq, at the governorate office.

During the meeting, the Governor of Erbil congratulated the Ambassador on assuming his new post and wished him success in carrying out his diplomatic duties.
He also expressed the full readiness of the governorate’s institutions to provide any necessary facilitation and coordination to ensure the success of his mission. Subsequently, both sides discussed further developing and deepening the historical and strategic relations between the Kurdistan Region and Austria.

In this context, they highlighted several key areas of mutual interest, including expanding diplomatic and cultural cooperation, creating investment opportunities for Austrian companies in the infrastructure projects of the capital Erbil, and benefiting from Austria’s advanced expertise in the fields of development.

At the end of the meeting, the Austrian Ambassador to Iraq thanked the Governor of Erbil for the warm reception and reaffirmed his hope for a brighter phase of friendship between the two sides.
