In Erbil... Fly Erbil Commences Its First Official Flight to Baghdad
On Sunday, November 1, 2026, during a special ceremony, the first official flight of Fly Erbil to Baghdad commenced from Erbil International Airport. The event was attended by Ano Jawhar, Minister of Transport and Communications of the Kurdistan Regional Government; Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Safeen Dizayee, Head of the Department of Foreign Relations; Dr. Mohammed Shukri, Chairman of the Board of Investment; Hemin Qadir, Deputy Governor of Erbil; Gaylan Haji Saeed, President of the Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry; alongside a number of other government officials and prominent figures.
This milestone comes after the company successfully obtained its official Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority. This certification has enabled Fly Erbil to transition from operating under the umbrella of other companies to functioning entirely as an independent airline.
The launch of Fly Erbil's official flights is regarded as a significant milestone in the development of the aviation sector in the Kurdistan Region.
It is anticipated to play a prominent role in advancing air transport services, expanding flight routes, and strengthening Erbil’s connectivity with cities and countries worldwide. Simultaneously, the commencement of this company's official operations represents a positive step toward supporting the private sector, encouraging investment, and bolstering Erbil's position as a major aviation and commercial hub in the region.
Furthermore, it will actively contribute to revitalizing the tourism and economic sectors by providing greater facilitation for the movement of citizens and commercial trade between the Kurdistan Region and the outside world.
