Erbil Governor Receives Head of UNDP Iraq Office

 Today, Monday, September 15, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received Titon Mitra, Head of the UNDP Iraq Office, and Kennedy, Director of the organization's Erbil Office, at the Governor's Office.
 

During the meeting, the Head of the UNDP Iraq Office thanked the Governor of Erbil for his welcome and highlighted the progress Erbil, the capital, has witnessed. He expressed his pleasure with the service projects being offered in the city and highly appreciated the continuous support, coordination, and cooperation of the esteemed Governor of Erbil for their organization. He praised the Governor's role in all the joint work carried out with their Erbil office in the past.

In return, the Governor of Erbil highly appreciated the efforts and work of the said organization and commended the coordination and partnership of the UNDP Erbil office with Erbil Governorate. He wished them success in their work and demonstrated all support, assistance, and coordination from the Governorate and the Erbil Governorate team for the success of their projects. Later, discussions were held regarding climate change, and emphasis was placed on all the measures, work, and projects undertaken in that regard within Erbil Governorate to prevent its dangers. This was despite the financial crisis and the injustice Baghdad inflicts upon the Kurdistan Region, but the Kurdistan Regional Government, led by the esteemed Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister, has been able to implement a large number of strategic and important projects such as the Erbil rapid water supply emergency project, the Qushtapa water project, the construction of numerous dams and ponds to protect groundwater resources, and lighting projects to protect the environment of Erbil city.

In another part of the meeting, the Green Belt project was mentioned, which is of great importance for the city of Erbil and its environmental protection. For this purpose, both sides presented their follow-up and clarity regarding the project. In this regard, the Governor of Erbil revealed that the project consists of several zones and work has started in some of them. Several necessary meetings have also been held with the UNDP Erbil office to study and formulate a joint plan and work to start working on a part of the project's zone. For this purpose, the Governor of Erbil hoped that the head of the UNDP Iraq office would be supportive and cooperative in starting the project.

Finally, the head of the UNDP Iraq office thanked the Governor of Erbil for his welcome and clarity on the affairs of the governorate and the services provided in the past. They reiterated all their organization's support and assistance to Erbil Governorate and emphasized continuous aid and support for their projects in partnership with the governorate.
