Head of the International Federation for Human Rights... "Hopes that Kurdistan's experience in achieving justice, democracy, equality, and coexistence will be transferred to Baghdad and all regions of the Middle East."
Today, Thursday, September 25, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, welcomed Thomas Schumacher, President of the German International Federation for Human Rights (IGFM-ISHR), and an accompanying delegation at the Governor's Office.
During the meeting, the President of the Federation expressed his pleasure with the ancient and rich culture and history of Erbil city and the progress and prosperity present in it. He expressed his admiration for the peace, security, freedom, justice, democracy, equality, and coexistence that prevail in the Kurdistan Region in general, and the capital Erbil in particular, which today has become a model for the entire region. He hoped that the Kurdistan Region's experience would be transferred to Baghdad and all regions of the Middle East. He then referred to their work and programs in carrying out a number of joint projects and work with the Barzani Charity Foundation.
In response, the Governor of Erbil, while welcoming him, thanked him for his appreciation of Kurdish history, culture, and heritage, and wished for more such examples. He also emphasized the coexistence of ethnic, religious, and sectarian components in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, which has always supported harmony, brotherhood, love, and coexistence among all ethnic, religious, and sectarian components since ancient times, and today has become a center of coexistence throughout Iraq, the region, and the entire world.
He then highly appreciated the joint efforts and work of the said Federation with the Barzani Charity Foundation, which are among the important partners of the Foundation and have been working in the Kurdistan Region since 2013. He also commended their coordination and cooperation and reiterated the Governorate's support and backing for their work, wishing them success. He also hoped that their work and activities, which share the same goal as the Kurdistan Regional Government, would increase within Erbil Governorate.
It is worth noting that Thomas Schumacher, President of the International Federation for Human Rights, which is a German organization and also the President of the Institute for Religious Freedom, is an influential figure in Europe with a wide network of international connections, especially with the Vatican.
