Erbil Governor and Palestinian Consul Reiterate Support for Legitimate Demands of Both Kurdish and Palestinian Peoples

Today, Sunday, December 14, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, received Ambassador Maher Abdul Hafiz Al-Karki, Consul General of Palestine in Erbil, at the Governorate Diwan.
 

During the meeting, which was attended by the Director of Relations and the Director of Crisis Management of the Governorate, the Governor of Erbil congratulated the Consul on assuming his duties and expressed the full support of Erbil Governorate and relevant parties for the success of his mission. He also reiterated the Kurdistan Region's desire to further develop its relations with Palestine.
 

Then, he shed light on the historical relationship between the peoples of Kurdistan and Palestine and the continuous connection between their leaders during periods of revolution and resistance, all in pursuit of achieving the rights of both peoples. He also expressed support for the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people and wished for an end to wars and conflicts, the establishment of peace and stability, and for the peoples of Palestine and Kurdistan to achieve their rights and live peacefully under them.
 

For his part, the Palestinian Consul General condemned the recent attacks on the Khor Mor gas field, describing them as terrorist and extremist attacks against the peace and security of the Kurdistan Region. He expressed hope for the continued relationship between his country and the Kurdistan Region, especially in areas of mutual interest. He also reaffirmed that both the Kurdish and Palestinian peoples, who share a long history of suffering and deprivation of rights, must continuously support each other at the international community level.

In another part of the meeting, regarding the enhancement of cultural and educational cooperation, as well as the Palestinian students admitted to Salahaddin University, the Governor of Erbil reiterated his full support and assistance for them and all Palestinians within Erbil Governorate. In this regard, the Ambassador thanked the Governor of Erbil and the Kurdistan Regional Government for their continuous cooperation and coordination to ensure the success of this process.
