In Erbil... Launch of the Erbil-Nashville Joint Online Training Program for Advancing Road and Traffic Management

As part of ongoing efforts to develop joint relations between Erbil and Nashville, exchange expertise, build the capacities of specialists, and strengthen scientific and technical cooperation, a special hybrid workshop and training program was hosted at Tishk International University (TIU) in Erbil On Sunday evening, November 1, 2026.

The event was attended by Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; Dr. Ali Rashid, President of the Erbil Provincial Council; Agrin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing; Dr. Idris Hadi, President of Tishk International University; alongside several other government officials and organizational representatives.

The initiative was organized within the framework of the Sister Cities agreement between Erbil and Nashville, Tennessee, USA, in collaboration with the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Conducted through mutual cooperation and coordination between the two cities and supervised by TIU's Civil Engineering Department, the program aims to facilitate the transfer of international expertise and knowledge in transportation and traffic project management, urban infrastructure development, and the enhancement of traffic safety standards.

During the program, several critical topics related to road project management were discussed.
These included modern and advanced methods for project execution, cost reduction strategies, ensuring the safety of workers and drivers in construction zones, and the utilization of modern systems to regulate traffic, alleviate congestion, and minimize traffic accidents.

It is worth noting that this program provides a vital opportunity to transfer the expertise of American specialists to engineers and personnel in both the public and private sectors, including contracting and consulting firms, as well as engineering faculty and students. The initiative ultimately seeks to bridge the gap between academic knowledge, practical experience, and international standards.
