Erbil Governor and French Consul General in Kurdistan Region:
Reiterate Strengthening and Development of Historical and Friendly Relations

On Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, was warmly welcomed by Yann Braem, Consul General of France, at the French Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region.
 

During a meeting, the French Consul General expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Governor of Erbil for his visit and for the facilities provided to the French Consulate General. He also reiterated the strengthening and development of the historical and friendly relations between the Kurdish people and France.
 

For his part, the Governor of Erbil noted that the friendly relationship between Kurdistan and France has been linked to France's important stances towards the people of Kurdistan, and he emphasized the continuation and advancement of this friendship.
 

The meeting discussed the latest changes and developments in the political situation in Iraq and the region generally, as well as the development of bilateral relations. The role of President Barzani was highlighted as a leader with a strategic vision and approach, who, through peaceful logic and dialogue, has been a key part of playing a role in normalizing complex situations and putting them back on their right track.
