Citizens of the region are permitted to travel to Iran with their own vehicles for one year
Most of the points of the two agreements were implemented following the agreements reached between the Governor of Erbil and the Governor of West Azerbaijan (Urmia) in the previous two years, which saw great progress in implementing the points of agreement in increasing commercial and economic movement and facilitating the movement of citizens and tourists between the two countries at the Haji Omeran-Tamarjin international border crossing.
And today, August 23, 2023, in a meeting between the governor of Erbil, Omed Khoshnaw, and the Iranian consul to Erbil, Nasrallah Rashnudi. It resulted in the implementation of a new paragraph of the agreement signed between the provinces of Erbil and West Azerbaijan (Urmia) two years ago.
This was the province of Erbil's request in order to provide more services to its citizens and to facilitate their travel to the Islamic Republic of Iran in their private vehicles.
The two sides agreed to allow citizens of Erbil and the Kurdistan Region in general to enter Iran in their own cars, loaded trucks, or any other sort of vehicle by getting a special card for a one-time minimal charge with the option of using it for a year.
Currently, all the necessary mechanisms and procedures have been established to implement this agreement, and it will shortly enter into force in accordance with the regulations in place in both countries.
