Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the International Organization for Migration Announce Migration Governance Indicators in the Kurdistan Region
On Monday, August 25, 2025, in the presence of Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, Dr. Hemin Mirani, Director General of the Diwan of the Ministry of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Ms. Srwa Rasul, Director General of the Joint Crisis Coordination Centre, Mr. Adriaan IJsselstein, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the Kurdistan Region, Mr. Benjamin Peter, the new Deputy Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Iraq, along with relevant parties to the issue of migration in the Kurdistan Region, the results of the first assessment of migration governance indicators in the Kurdistan Region were announced.
This assessment is the result of one year's work between the Ministry of Interior / Joint Crisis Coordination Centre and the International Organization for Migration in the Kurdistan Region...
In a speech, Ms. Srwa Rasul, the Director General of the Centre, expressed her satisfaction with the content of the meeting, stating that despite the federal government's shortcomings in providing services for humanitarian issues in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Region has managed to continue its international progress.
Meanwhile, the Consul General of the Netherlands in the Kurdistan Region delivered a speech, thanking the Kurdistan Regional Government for its continuous efforts regarding the issue of migration and the formulation of migration policies through several programs. One of these programs is the COMPASS program, which supports the Kurdistan Regional Government in various areas through the International Organization for Migration, including the establishment of the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) system in the Kurdistan Region. The Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands also thanked the International Organization for Migration, the COMPASS program, and the Migration Management unit within the International Organization for Migration.
For their part, the International Organization for Migration showcased the advanced dimensions of migration governance policy in the Kurdistan Region as a successful example in Iraq and the Middle East...
Now, the Kurdistan Region is taking steps towards preparing for the first International Compact for Migration meeting, which will be held soon in the Kurdistan Region.
