Erbil Commemorates Gandhi's Birthday and India's Independence

Today, Monday, October 2, 2023, Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and Indian Consul General Madan Gopal laid a wreath at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Shahid Sami Abdulrahman Park on the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the 77th anniversary of India's independence.

The governor congratulated the people, government and the Indian Consulate in Erbil and emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and India to serve the interests of both communities.

He added that the presence of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Martyr Sami Abdulrahman Park represents the Kurdistan Region's long-standing friendship with India. On September 17, 2019, the statue was unveiled to commemorate India's independence and the 150th anniversary of Gandhi's birth.
