Erbil Governorate Facilitates Advancement of Job Opportunities, Decent Work, and Social Protection for All

On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, at the Governor's Office, and in the presence of Dr. Niaz Tahir, Director of the Governor's Office, welcomed Bashar Samarneh, Project Manager of the Afaq project at the International Labour Organization (ILO), and an accompanying delegation.
 

During the meeting, the visiting delegation explained the purpose of their visit and their organization's goals to the Governor of Erbil, which include working with relevant official government institutions and bodies to regulate national employment policies aimed at advancing job creation, vocational training and support, decent work, and social protection for all, including internally displaced persons and refugees. For his part, the Governor of Erbil, while commending the project, highly valued it and showed all support, backing, and facilitation from Erbil Governorate for its success. He expressed hope that this project would contribute to reducing unemployment, which is one of the objectives and strategies of the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

He also highlighted the importance of organizational work in Kurdistan and the role and influence of organizations in various governance processes, and stated that Erbil Governorate views activities that align with the goals and work program of the Kurdistan Regional Government with importance. He assured them that the doors of Erbil Governorate and its relevant institutions and departments would be open for their project.
